MERCEDES-BENZ Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MBM) is bullish about selling more vehicles this year than last year, thanks to a broad product portfolio and superior after-sales services.

“We are confident of exceeding last year’s total vehicle sales performance of 11,779 units, making this year another record-breaking year for MBM. We will continue our huge success story on the C-Class which forms kind of our volume base.

“Our growth has been predominantly boosted by locally-assembled cars — that is why we have invested heavily of over RM900 million in the past years in the country and will continue to invest more, as we believe Malaysia have a lot of growth potential,” MBM sales and marketing vicepresident Mark Raine said at a press conference, here, yesterday.

The company sold 5,913 vehicles in the first half of this year, 1.7 per cent lower than 6,017 units sold for the same period last year, due to timing and seasonality reasons.

MBM remained the number one player in the premium car segment after recording an overall passenger car market share of 2.2 per cent as of May.

The first-half performance was primarily driven by locally-produced limousines — MercedesBenz C-Class, E-Class and SClass — with a total of 3,663 units sold.

The C-Class topped the list with 2,075 units sold, closely followed by the E-Class with 1,358 units delivered.

Despite the slightly lower sales in the first half, MBM managed to record its best-ever monthly sales last month with 1,210 units sold.
