JOSEPH Koo Kar-Fai is one of the most respected composers in Hong Kong today. Also known by his pen name Moran while composing Mandarin songs, Koo is the younger brother of veteran singer and artist Koo Mei, and tomorrow is his inaugural concert at the Arena Of Stars, Genting Highlands.

Koo’s star-studded concert featuring some of his most famous collaborat­ors in music is titled

The composer has invited on stage Frances Yip Lai Yee, Elisa Chan, Teresa Cheung Tak Lan and Gallen Lo Ka Leung, four well-known singers and actors who are household names in Hong Kong.

FRANCES YIP

Cantopop queen Yip is best known for performing theme songs for television series produced by HKTVB in the 1980s and early 1990s. Her singing career began in 1969 when she won a talent contest and subsequent­ly met Koo. He had her sing advertisem­ent jingles and it was not long after that she released her first album

In 1973, Yip was working for Cathay Pacific; her album was released, based on her experience­s travelling to various countries.This successful album saw Yip sing in nine languages. She subsequent­ly sang in London, the United Kingdom for two years.Yip hit internatio­nal fame with her signature tune, from the HKTVB drama of the same name starring Chow Yun Fat and Sam Lui Leung Wai.

ELISA CHAN

Chan started as the lead vocalist of Hong Kong pop group The New Topnotes. Going solo in the early 1980s, she has been a celebrated Cantopop artiste for three decades. Her musical repertoire ranges from Western pop to Cantopop and audiences are always impressed by her powerful performanc­es.

She was voted Best Performer of Hong Kong in 1998.

Throughout her career, she has released over 20 solo albums and the latest,

was released in 2011. Since 1994, she has appeared in more than 30 concerts around the world.

TERESA CHEUNG

Cheung, of Hakka Dabu ancestry, has been singing since her pre-teens and was a member of the Four Golden Flowers.

She rose to fame in the 1980s, singing a song for the HKTVB series

which also starred Chow. She also sang the theme song of the HKTVB series,

(1983), which starred Andy Lau.

GALLEN LO

Lo is primarily an actor who began his career in 1984. He has performed the theme songs for several series on ATV, and subsequent­ly joined HKTVB where he saw better success. In 1997, he starred in the series
