“GET well soon, Nana. We will get you the iPhone that you have al- ways wanted.”

These are words of encouragement the family of Syazana Amirah Asshaari, the 14-year-old girl who was brutally assaulted by robbers at her home in Kampung Masjid here, use to lift her spirits in hopes that she could fight the pain.

The victim’s eldest sister, Nuratikah Asshaari, 22, said before the robbery, Syazana Amirah had always wanted an iPhone.

“After she regained consciousness following the surgery, I told her to get better so that she could have the phone. She was responsive, but still drowsy, probably due to the medicines taken.

“However, when I asked her what colour she wanted for the phone, she moved her hands when I mentioned silver,” she said.

“We hope this will encourage her to fight the pain and have a smooth recovery. We miss hearing her voice and her cheerful personality,” she said at Kuala Lumpur Hospital yesterday.

Nuratikah and her mother, Siti Rafiah Mansor, had spent the last five days at the hospital to stay close to Syazana Amirah.

They slept and spent their time in the waiting area of the hospital and were only allowed to enter the ward during visiting hours.

Siti Rafiah said her daughter could not talk as there were tubes placed in her mouth, but Syazana could move her hands.

“We tried communicating with her and she would move her hands, but sometimes she would ignore the doctors’ orders to respond.”

She added that relatives, including those from Kelantan and Kedah, had visited her at the hospital.

When the family’s plight was highlighted, many mosques and surau conducted solat hajat for her daughter’s recovery.

Syazana Amirah was allegedly assaulted with blunt and sharp objects when two men broke into the family’s house on Friday.

The attack caused her to sustain severe injuries to her head and fractures on the skull.

Siti Rafiah found her lying in bed covered in blood and she was rushed to the hospital. She is currently warded at the intensive care unit.

Police released photofits of the two suspects on Tuesday.
