Cable company set to be most profitable manufacturer in the country

MELAKA: A company that has been producing cables since 1967 is all set to become nation’s most profitable manufacturer under its 2015-2020 tranformation programme.

Central Cables Bhd, a Bumiputera-majority-owned company, now has a production capacity worth RM300 million from its two factories in Batu Berendam, here and Senawang, Negri Sembilan.

Its chief executive officer, Zakrysham Zainal Bahry, said the company had registered positive growth in the last two years as a result of increased capacity, through reinvestments made to upgrade old machinery and the purchase of new ones since 2014.

Powered by a workforce of more than 300 personnel at each factory, Central Cables has registered a profit of RM25 million in the financial year ending June 30.

Zakrysham said Central Cables was an ISO-certified manufacturer committed to ensure consis- tent quality of products.

“We supply power cables to Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), which is our biggest customer. Central Cables does not produce cables for the consumer market.”

With the slogan “Central to Nation’s Growth”, Central Cables rose at a time when many people were without electricity and grew to supply the needs of industrial, commercial and housing industries in tandem with the growth of the nation.

Zakrysham said Central Cables, which also supplied power cables to Sabah and exported to Myanmar, prioritised positive attitude and efforts among its workers so that each task could be addressed responsibly.

“For five years, up to last year, based on 15 major producers, this industry generates an aggregate annual revenue of RM4 billion, of which Central Cable contributes five per cent.”

Central Cables will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a ceremony and dinner on July 15 at Holiday Inn Melaka with staff members, business partners and dignitaries as a mark of appreciation.
