HONDA SOLD 55,000 UNITS IN H1

New models, including facelifted City and newly launched CR-V, to help it meet 100,000-unit sales target

- KUALA LUMPUR

HONDA Malaysia Sdn Bhd has achieved more than half of its target of selling 100,000 cars this year, putting it on track to maintaining its lead position in the non-national car segment.

Honda Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Katsuto Hayashi said it had sold 55,000 units i n the first six months of the year.

Its three recent launches —the facelifted City, BR-V and Jazz — have helped push sales during the first half of the year.

While the three models are expected to continue churning out solid sales, Honda Malaysia can now also bank on the newlylaunched CR-V to perhaps beat the sales target. The target of 100,000 units represents a nine per cent jump over the 91,830 units recorded last year.

The fifth generation CR-V sports utility vehicle (SUV) made its debut yesterday, priced from RM142,400.

“We have a sales target of 700 units per month for the new SUV,” Hayashi said at the launch here yesterday.

The CR-V has been completely redesigned and re-engineered to offer a premium SUV with a multitude of advanced features.

The range-topping engine in the CR-V is a 1.5-litre VTEC turbocharged engine mated to an upgraded continuous variable transmission (CVT). The powertrain produces 189hp at 5,600rpm and 243Nm of torque at 2,000 to 5,000rpm.

The base model 2.0-litre twowheel drive variant is priced at RM142,400. The 1.5-litre turbocharged two-wheel drive vehicle is priced at RM155,700.

Next up on the range is the 1.5litre turbo four wheel drive, which is priced at RM161,600.

Finally, the range topping 1.5litre premium turbo two-wheel drive is priced at RM167,700.

In a ground-breaking move, Honda is introducing a comprehensive suite of Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistive technologies with the launch of its new SUV.

Honda Sensing is a suite of next-generation active safety features that will assist drivers by providing early warning, helping to avoid or mitigate the severity of a collision.

The new CR-V comes equipped with six airbags. A reverse camera, vehicle stability assist, smart entry and push-start button have been made standard in all variants, while an eight-sensor system is available for the higher variants.
