-

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno will celebrate unity at its Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house tomorrow.

“Togetherness” will be the main theme at the open house to commemorate the lasting relationship between party leaders and members. It is likely to be the last Hari Raya celebration before the next general election.

Umno headquarters secretarygeneral Datuk Nor Azuwan Aziz said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, along with leading Umno members, would be at the open house to greet guests.

“Since this will be the last Hari Raya celebration for current party leaders before the election next year, we want to use the theme to remind ourselves of the years we had in Umno,” said Nor Azuwan while overseeing preparations for the open house at Dewan Tun Razak 1.

“We are 90 per cent ready and are waiting for food booths to be fully decorated. The hall will be filled with decorations to symbolise each state, and there will be about 20 tents for guests.

“The open house is open to everyone to come and celebrate Hari Raya with us.

“Guests will be entertained with performances by Melaka Art Brigade, a ghazal dance troop from Johor and dikir barat buskers from Kelantan. Local artistes, such as Jamal Abdillah, Misha Omar and Sufian Suhaimi, will also perform.”

Nor Azuwan said about 50,000 to 70,000 guests were expected, so people were advised to take public transport as the area would be heavily congested.

The main attraction will be the food pavilion, which will have traditional delicacies from each state, such as laksa johor, kuih akok from Kelantan and rendang tok from Perak.

The open house, from 11am to 3pm, will be held at Dewan Tun Razak 1 of the Putra World Trade Centre here.
