PERODUA ON TRACK TO HIT 2017 SALES TARGET
Carmaker upbeat on meeting 202,000-unit sales target this year
PERUSAHAAN Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) sold nearly 100,000 cars in the first half of this year, registering 2.4 per cent growth in sales compared with last year, and is optimistic of achieving its 202,000-unit sales target for the year.
For the first six months, 99,700 cars were sold compared with 97,400 last year, giving Perodua a market share of 35.1 per cent.
President and chief executive officer Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said all Perodua models led their respective segments, with the Axia selling 32,600 units, fol- lowed by the Bezza 28,300, Myvi 24,000 and Alza 14,700 units.
“Based on our internal observation, the total industry volume (TIV) has improved by 2.3 per cent to 284,200 for the first half of the year compared with 275,000 vehicles in the same period last year,” he said.
Aminar attributed the increase in sales to aggressive sales cam- paigns done by nearly all automotive players as well as the introduction of new models.
Leftover 2016 stock sold at a discount also contributed to the increase, he said at the national car manufacturer’s halfyear performance review here yesterday.
“Despite the improvement in sales, we foresee that tighter lending guidelines will be our greatest challenge to overcome, as most of our customers are first time buyers,” he said.
Aminar added that Perodua would also consider introducing a sport utility vehicle to its model line-up. “This is something we are seriously considering,” he said.
Perodua exported 1,854 vehicles to six countries in the first half of the year.
“The recent introduction of the Bezza model in Mauritius and Sri Lanka, respectively, has been well received, and we have sold eight and 79 units in both countries, ” he said.
With regards to its after-salesservices, Aminar said Perodua saw 1.02 million vehicles patronising its service centres during the first half, an increase of 1.2 per cent from 1.01 million units serviced a year ago.
