SPNB to adopt Ajiya IBS to speed up construction

- Francis Dass

KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) is set to speed up construction of 100,000 units of affordable houses following the adoption of Ajiya Green Integrated Building Solutions (AGIBS).

This is after SPNB inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ajiya Bhd to use the AGIBS at its projects.

SPNB group chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Azizi Ali said of the 100,000 units, 36,000 had been completed, 14,000 were being built and 50,000 units had yet to be built.

“We hope with AGIBS, we can speed up the building of these houses and meet our commitment to the government to build the 100,000 units of affordable homes.

“The 50,000 units should be ready by the 14th General Election,” he said after the signing of the MoU, here, yesterday.

Ahmad said the 14,000 units being built would have a gross development value (GDV) of RM2.8 billion.

Additionally, he said, SPNB also inked a MoU with Felda in April to build 20,000 units of affordable houses tagged as “Rumah Generasi Baharu Felda”.

“The pilot Felda project will be in Terengganu. We have identified the location and will announce it soon,” he added.

SPNB will hold talks with Ajiya to finalise suitable locations nationwide for projects that can deploy AGIBS.

“We still have 50,000 units to build... SPNB has three programmes — Rumah Aspirasi Rakyat, Rumah Idaman Rakyat and Rumah Mesra Rakyat — and we had recently undertaken Rumah Generasi Baharu Felda.

“We will see the suitability of AGIBS for any or all of these programmes without compromising on their quality,” he said.

Ahmad said SPNB’s affordable houses ranged from RM150,000 to RM200,000 per unit and 85 per cent would be below the RM300,000 per unit price range.

On the housing market, he said although it appeared to be soft, there was demand for affordable houses.

“The only issue is getting the end-financing. I am sure the government is doing something about it,” he said.

Ajiya managing director Datuk Chan Wah Kiang said AGIBS was a locally invented and internationally patented integrated building solution.

He said the MoU was an invaluable opportunity for the company to work with SPNB to address the issue of affordable houses in Malaysia.
