Umno holds Hari Raya open house today

-

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 50,000 people are expected to attend Umno’s Hari Raya open house at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here today.

The event, with the theme “Togetherness”, will also serve as a gathering for party members to celebrate unity.

Guests will be greeted by Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, party vice-presidents Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, and state Umno leaders.

Umno headquarters secretarygeneral Datuk Nor Azuwan Aziz said the main highlight of the event was the spread of traditional delicacies from all 13 states in Malaysia.

Traditional kuih from every state was expected to be served to guests.

Nor Azuwan said: “For this year, we have decided to be different with the food spread comprising traditional dishes from every state.”

For example, he said, Terengganu Umno will serve the state’s nasi dagang, Johor will offer its famous laksa, while Perak will offer rendang tok.

“State Umno chiefs will be present at their respective booths to receive guests to try the traditional dishes,” he said.

Nor Azuwan said there would also be traditional performances by dance troupes and local artistes, such as singer Datuk Jamal Abdillah, Misha Omar and Sufian Suhaimi, to entertain the guests.

“We have also invited dikir barat buskers from Kelantan, Johor ’s ghazal dance troupe and the Melaka Art Brigade,” he said.

He said there were about 20 tents to accommodate the guests at the venue.

“We want everyone to have a good time, enjoy the food and performances while mingling with other guests,” he said.

He advised those attending the event to use public transportation as the area was expected to be congested with visitors.

The event, from 11am to 3pm, will be held at Dewan Tun Razak 1 in PWTC.
