NUMEROUS activities have been lined up in conjunction with the launch of Phase Two of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line today.

The launch will start at 11am with the arrival of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, at the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) station, where Najib will give a speech.

After the speech, there will be a certificate handover from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to MRT chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, followed by a certificate-giving ceremony to 30 MRT Young Entrepreneur Programme (MYEP2) participants.

After the launch, Najib and 700 VIP guests will take a train to join 20,000 others at Stadium Kajang station.

Guests will be treated to satay,

lemang and rendang provided by eateries in Kajang.

“There is a gallery of pictures showing the milestones of the MRT project and a presentation of MyRapid Touch ’n Go cards to the underprivileged,” an MRT spokesman told the New Straits

Times yesterday. To commemorate the historic day, Pos Malaysia issued limited edition MRT stamps, and they are available for purchase at a booth at Stadium Kajang station.

Pos Malaysia head of stamp and philately unit Diyana Lean Abdullah encouraged people to grab the stamps as they would not be reissued.

MRT Corp director of strategic communications and stakeholder relations Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah said commuters could look forward to the most outstanding feature of Phase Two, which was the seven underground stations: Muzium Negara, Pasar Seni, Merdeka, Bukit Bintang, TRX, Cochrane and Maluri.

“The concept for the exterior design of the underground stations is inspired by the Klang Gates Quartz Ridge, a pure quartz dyke in the northeastern area of Kuala Lumpur.

“The multi-faceted quartz is the best way to symbolise multiracial and multicultural Malaysia,” he told the NST recently.

Najmuddin said the interior design of the stations symbolised the neighbourhood the stations were in, such as a theme of transition for Muzium Negara, dynamic for Bukit Bintang and urban living for Cochrane.

“We know people are very excited about the full opening of the SBK Line.

“The public’s response on social media is very positive, with many looking forward to using the service to beat traffic.”
