‘IT BROKE MY HEART’
Actress Lisa Surihani shares a painful moment she experienced recently as a mum of two. SYAHIRAH MOKHTAZAR writes
POPULAR celebrity couple Lisa Surihani and Yusry Abdul Halim, of KRU, is now a family of four, having welcomed their new bundle of joy, a son named Yusof Leonne, last April.
Their firstborn daughter, Yahaira Leanne, will turn 2 in September.
While welcoming a new addition brings an abundance of joy to the family, Lisa shared a moment when she felt her heart crushed into a million pieces.
“Yahaira understands that she now has to share us with Yusof. When they first met, Yahaira was extremely friendly and warm towards her brother.
“After she saw me breastfeeding Yusof, she started to change. She began to cry and throw tantrums,” said Lisa.
“That really broke my heart. I had to make sure that my newborn was properly breastfed, (but) it saddened me to see my daughter breaking down like that. I think she thought that she was being replaced or put aside.”
To remedy that, Lisa and Yusry made sure they paid extra attention to their daughter by spending quality time with her and assuring her that she is loved.
“Parents need to be smart in dividing their attention among their little ones so that they realise that even though they have other siblings, mummy and daddy still love them all the same,” said the 31-year-old at the launch of Season 2 of Astro’s popular infotainment series, eBu Babypedia, at Great Eastern Mall in Kuala Lumpur recently.
Now that Yusof is 3 months old, Yahaira has begun to warm up to her little brother.
“From time to time, she would come to touch and hug Yusof.”
The celebrity couple, who hosted the first season of eBu Babypedia in March last year, returns to helm the show.
Season 2 will explore topics related to babies and parenting in the modern age.
Yahaira will make an appearance in all 10 episodes.
Guest celebrities include Jihan Muse and Bell Ngasri.
Season 2 of eBu Babypedia premieres on July 26.
It airs every Wednesday at 10pm on Astro Ria (channel 104) and Ria HD (channel 123).
