Umno chiefs can help solve civil servants’ woes, says PM

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak wants party division chiefs to listen and provide unique solutions to the variety of issues faced by civil servants nationwide, a senior Umno leader said.

Pahang Umno deputy liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin said Najib had reminded the division chiefs, during a Hari Raya Aidilfitri dinner at Seri Perdana last night, that there were 1.6 million civil servants facing specific problems based on their respective fields.

“The prime minister reminded us to always listen to their problems and provide specific solutions to each of them. For example, issues relating to the transfers of teachers.

“I believe he wants us to be systematic and to micro-manage several matters, besides helping people at the grassroots level,” said Sharkar, who is also Temerloh Umno division chief, when contacted yesterday.

Sharkar said Najib told division chiefs to work hard in the upcoming general election and defend the seats won by Umno during the 13th General Election.

“Najib told us to put aside our differences. There is no need for grudges and we must help maintain Barisan Nasional’s 134 seats in Parliament.

“He also wants the division chiefs to work closely with our deputies.”

During the dinner, Najib said Umno leaders must go all out in serving the people regardless of their racial backgrounds.

“We must extend our help to all Malaysians, whether they are Chinese and Indians.

“We need to listen to the people’s needs.”

Sharkar also denied a news portal report, which claimed that Najib had “confidently” told the division leaders that he had “regained the support of 1.6 million civil servants”.

“That portal got it wrong. Najib did not mention anything about regaining support of the civil servants.

“He only said about the need to listen to them and micro-manage the different segments of civil servants.”
