Journey of an English Rose

English actress Lily James stars in action comedy which opened in cinemas yesterday. Aref Omar lists some of her big and small screen roles

-

James has a small role, just like Alicia Vikander and Uma Thurman, in this American culinary drama. It stars Bradley Cooper who has to climb back to the top after destroying his golden career with drugs and diva behaviour.

James’ big break came in this critically and commercially successful live-action Disney adaptation of the classic animated film. Directed by Kenneth Branagh and co-starring Cate Blanchett, James shone as the titular heroine in this romantic fantasy. Apparently, 10,000 Swarovski crystals were positioned one-by-one on James’ hair and her blue gown for the dance scene.

This romantic war drama set during the onset of World War II follows the story of a German soldier who has to find out if the Dutch resistance has planted a spy in the home of Kaiser Wilhem in Holland. James plays the soldier’s love interest, a maid who turns out to be an informant. The film features James’ first nude scene. James kicks ass in a lead role as the no-nonsense Elizabeth Bennet in this BritishAmerican horror comedy.

It’s based on Seth GrahameSmith’s 2009 novel of the same name, which is a flesheating parody of the 1813 novel Pride And Prejudice by Jane Austen.

In one scene, the actress walks through an area covered with zombie heads, mostly made out of props. According to James, she was directed to stomp on one to squish it. When she saw the shocked look from crew members later, she discovered that she had accidentally stepped on the head of one of the few extras on the ground.

Titans,

This six-episode BritishAmerican historical period drama TV series is based on Russian author Leo Tolstoy’s 19th-century literary classic of the same name. It chronicles the French invasion of Russia and its impact on five Russian aristocratic families, whose lives will forever be changed. James plays the spirited central character, Natasha Rostova. Screen legend Audrey Hepburn also carried the role in the 1956 movie version.
