BN to continue helping Penang

-

GEORGE TOWN: The Barisan Nasional (BN) government has never shed its responsibility to provide infrastructure development in Penang, even though the state was under the opposition, said Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

He said the basic fundamentals in Penang, enjoyed by the opposition parties for the past two terms, were provided by the previous BN state government.

“We do not neglect any state with potential to develop. Penang Airport, for example, has reached quite a critical stage with a passenger capacity of 6.7 million, and we are now looking at how to expand the airport,” he said when opening the Bayan Baru Umno divisional delegates’ conference here yesterday.

He said BN did not engage in politics that curtailed development, instead providing the assistance necessary for the people’s benefit.

“The opposition talks without facts. They have been in power in Penang since 2008, but what have they done, except beautify the various policies introduced by BN?” he said.

On the opposition’s promise to abolish the Goods and Services Tax, Johari, who is also second finance minister, said the opposition had no grounds to do so.

He said the government aimed to increase the country’s gross domestic product by RM2 trillion in two years from the current RM1.2 trillion. Bernama
