National cyclist Fauzan wins ‘Harian Metro’ event
BUKIT MERAH: National cyclist Mohd Fauzan Ahmad was crowned champion in the Men’s Open category at the Harian Metro Mountain Bike Grand Prix (HMMBGP), held at Bukit Merah Laketown Resort yesterday.
Fauzan, 31, from the SBS GiantPDRM team, clocked 1:30:20s in the 48km race.
Izrimibike cyclist Muhammad Khuzairi Abdul Bakar was only a second behind, with teammate Muaz Abd Rahim coming in third in 1:33:45s.
The top three winners went home with RM1,000, RM700 and RM500 and a medal each. A total of 1,200 local and foreign cyclists took part in five categories.
Sarocha Kamonlakhon (Thailand Allstars) emerged winner for the Women’s Open category, finishing the race in 1:39:16s, followed by SBS-Giant rider Masziyaton Mohd Radzi (1:43.25s) and Nor Azian Alias (1:46:47s).
For the Senior Master category, former national triathlete Mohd Razani Hussin emerged champion with a time of 1:34:14s, beating former national cyclist Nor Affendy Rosli (Exitway Mercury Team) and Tan Chee Yong (SBS Giant), who crossed the line second and third.
Surachet Sun Jui (Thailand Allstars) won the Junior Master category, while Zukri Tahir and Azizul Azli Shaari emerged the first and second runners-up respectively.
The race was flagged off by Harian Metro group editor Datuk Mustapa Omar, Affin Islamic Bank Bhd chief executive officer Nazlee Khalifah, Alor Pongsu assemblyman Datuk Sham Mat Sahat and Kerian district officer Mohd Sabli Bakri.
HMMBGP was organised in collaboration with Affin Bank Group, Honda Malaysia, Polygon, Deuter, Tesco Stores (M) Sdn Bhd, Julie’s Biscuits, Isuzu Malaysia, Pepsico and Bukit Merah Laketown Resort.
It was supported by the Kerian police headquarters, Civil Defence Force, Health Ministry and People’s Volunteer Corps.
