‘Your cheers will roar on the tiger in us’

IF he continues his current form, golfer Ervin Chang is in line for a Sea Games medal.

He finished second in the Olympic Jabar Amateur Open International III in Bogor, Indonesia, on Thursday. A timely boost three weeks before the Sea Games.

In Bogor, Ervin carded a 211, five strokes behind winner Naarajie Amerald of Indonesia, who will also be his rival in the Sea Games.

Ervin’s finishing of five-under-par 211 was one stroke better than Asian Tour professional Gavin Green’s younger brother, Galven.

“Reading about the achievements of our golfers in the past Sea Games has inspired me to do my best for my country,” he said.

The 19-year-old added: “Honestly, I hope to be a Sea Games medallist. I am sure every member in my team harbours such a wish too.”

Ervin, the Singapore Amateur Open 2017 runner-up, will be joined by Galven and Chan Tuck Soon as they hope to regain the Sea Games team glory achieved in 1989 (Kuala Lumpur)

Ervin, who is majoring in Sports Management at Liberty University in Virginia, has played as an amateur in about 10 local PGM-ADT tournaments.

“I will be able to draw on such experience to put my nerves in check during the Sea Games.”

Ervin urged Malaysians to come out and support the local golfers at the Mines Resort and Golf Club during the Sea Games on August 22-26.

“Your cheers will roar on the tiger in us and keep us in the hunt!” he said. Farah Azharie
