Video clip of schoolgirls beating girl riles Netizens

-

KUNAK: A video showing a group of secondary schoolgirls beating another at the town field here on Saturday has drawn the ire of Netizens.

Many vented their anger on social media at the one-minute clip, which was uploaded on Facebook and has gone viral.

The video suggested that the fight was over a boy, and more than five people were seen assaulting the victim.

“It is better that these girls go into lock-up. They think they are Kunak gangsters, and embarrass those who wear tudung,” the caption of the video read.

A commenter said: “That is such lousy behaviour. Imagine these girls asking a high wedding dowry of RM20,000 when they grow up with this attitude.”

Another Netizen commented that it was not worth fighting with friends over a girl or a boy.

The district police said 10 students, aged between 15 and 17 from various schools, who were involved in the incident, including the student recording the incident, had been brought in for investigations under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

“A report has been lodged by the mother of the victim, a 15year-old student, the day after the incident. The incident happened outside the school premises and not at a school field as some had claimed,” said district police chief Superintendent Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir.

“The victim had also received outpatient treatment at the district hospital.”

He said parents of the students involved, as well as their teachers, had been called in to have their statement taken to help in the investigations. The motive of the assault was being determined, he added.

The district Education Office will conduct an investigation into the case.

Kunak education assistant officer Abu Samah A. Bakar said since the incident happened after school ended, they would take action based on guidelines and standard operating procedure.

“My personnel will look into this matter and our department will help in the police investigations.”
