Sisters raped by brother receiving counselling

-

ALOR STAR: The three sisters allegedly raped by their brother are responding positively under the care of the state Welfare Department.

The girls, aged 8, 9 and 14, were placed at a shelter home in Jitra pending investigations into their cases.

State Welfare Department director Mohd Noor Chik said the department had started giving counselling to the girls to help them deal with the trauma.

“The girls are coping well with life at the shelter.

“They are responding well to counselling,” he told the New Straits Times.

Noor said the department had sent its counselling unit to meet the girls’ other family members in Sungai Petani.

He said the family, too, needed counselling to help them deal with the situation.

Two weeks ago, police arrested the girls’ 18-year-old brother following claims by the youngest sister that he had raped her in a vacant house adjacent to their home at 8pm on July 19.

Police were investigating claims by her two elder sisters that they had also been raped by their brother.

On a different case, Noor said a pregnant 14-year-old girl raped by her granduncle, had been placed under the care of a facility for young mothers in Perak.

He said the girl would stay at the facility until she delivered her baby.

Noor said the department would monitor her progress until she had delivered her baby before taking the next course of action to protect the girl and her baby. Report by Embun Majid
