Twenty-six years after her 1991 Legenda concert, the singer returns to the Stadium Negara stage tomorrow night, writes Syahirah Mokhtazar

- T 8pm tomorrow at Stadium Negara, jazz queen Datuk Sheila Majid will hold her long-awaited concert. The last time she performed at the same venue was 26 years ago for her 1991 Legenda concert, so it isn’t surprising that Sheila is looking forward to the

energy from the audience. If they are quiet, you’ll have to find a way to get them to warm up to you,” she said.

And to keep the momentum going all night, stamina is key. Sheila exercises to increase her stamina.

“I’m consistent when it comes to exercise. I don’t just do it when I have a concert. Exercising has always been a part of my life.”

As for Chew, he went down memory lane to review old recordings of Sheila’s Legenda concert. As a musician who has collaborated with many artistes, it was crucial to get reacquainted with those special Sheila Majid vibes again.

“When I watched the recordings, it brought back memories of music in that era. It’s a great feeling and I really can’t wait for this concert,” he said. “We put on a great show then, and now with advanced

Mac Chew technology, we can achieve so much more,” he added.

Chew admitted it was a challenge to select Sheila’s hits to be included in a medley. “And medleys are the only way to fit as many songs as possible into a concert.”

Sheila added: “This concert is for fans, so I will try to sing as many songs as I can.”

Chew has tweaked the original music arrangements but maintained the essence of Sheila’s songs.

“I combined the songs and arranged them in a way that fits the current musical scene so that it will have a bigger appeal to the crowd, which is expected to comprise the young and old,” he said.

“Expect a few surprises along the way. The concert is going to be fun and memorable.”
