ty pageant, the artiste, whose real name is Sanny Aura Syahrani, acted in TV commercials, movies and sinetron (TV drama series). Notable productions she has starred in include (2011-2012) and Pashmina Aisha (2014).

The 30-year-old feels honoured to have acted in a film starring BCL and Joe.

“Acting alongside such seniors in the Indonesian entertainment industry is daunting. This was my first time acting with them. At the beginning, I was very nervous but they were helpful whenever I asked for guidance. BCL is a very humble actress who shares some acting tips,” says Aura who had acted alongside Ashraf in Pashmina Aisha.

In Surat Kecil Untuk Tuhan, Aura plays the grown-up Ningsih, a girl whom Angel and her brother Anton befriended when they were begging on the streets of Jakarta. When Angel returns to Jakarta to look for her longlost brother, she meets Ningsih and asks her help to find Anton. Ningsih is reluctant to revisit their dark past.

Like BCL, Aura was attracted to the human interest angle of the film.

“Ningsih is an emotionally-strong woman who had it tough growing up as a street kid. As an adult, she prefers to leave her past behind.

“So when Angel returns and finds her after many years, she is reluctant to tell Angel what has actually happened. She even tries to lie instead.

“I hope the film is as well-received in Malaysia as in Indonesia. Besides being a beautiful film, it has a good message for us all to ponder on.”

When asked if she will return to the small screen, the Bandung-born shakes her head.

“I can no longer do long durations of filming.”

“For it was 100 episodes, and had 175 episodes. It took four months to shoot Dewa.”

Like BCL, Aura is also a singer. To date, she has released two studio albums —

(2008) and (2009).

“I sing mostly reggae, dangdut and pop. I choose reggae as I like the beat and it definitely stands out in Indonesia,” says the artiste who pens her own songs.
