‘HALF-NAKED COP HAS MENTAL ISSUES’

Inspector also on drugs when he entered female restroom

THE 32-year-old seminaked police inspector, caught barging into the female restroom of a mall here on Monday, may lose his badge.

A psychiatric evaluation carried out on the police officer confirmed that he was suffering from mental illness.

Kedah police chief Datuk Asri Yusoff said the psychiatrist concluded that the inspector, who was under the influence of drugs, was hallucinating when he was caught trespassing on the restroom at 12.30am.

“It is confirmed that he was hallucinating when he entered the restroom.

“He was also under the influence of drugs,” he said yesterday.

Asri said the officer may be sacked due to his misdemeanour.

He added that the police officer had faced disciplinary problems over the past few years, including going absent without official leave for 90 days and failing to submit his report of a case he was investigating.

Asri said police had taken disciplinary action against the inspector, the latest being transferring him to the state police headquarters Integrity and Standard Compliance Department for observation by his superiors.

“However, this was the first time he was caught for drug abuse,” he said.

He said as of yesterday, the woman, who appeared to be berating the inspector in a video that has gone viral, had yet to lodge a report.

It was reported that a mobile patrol unit team, acting on a call concerning a disturbance caused by a man at the mall, found the inspector clad only in his underpants at the toilet.

Found on him was a crystalline substance weighing 0.62g, believed to be syabu.
