3 nasi kan­dar out­lets shut down

ALOR STAR: A nasi kan­dar restau­rant in Jalan Se­berang Perak here was slapped with a 14-day clo­sure or­der af­ter its work­ers were found pro­cess­ing roti canai flour on top of a sew­er­age cover be­hind the out­let.

The restau­rant was also found to have utilised two-day-old used cook­ing oil to fry food.

The tem­po­rary clo­sure or­der was also slapped on two nasi kan­dar out­lets in Le­buhraya Darul Aman and Jalan Len­cong Barat for fail­ing to com­ply with hy­gienic reg­u­la­tions dur­ing an in­spec­tion by the Kedah Is­lamic Re­li­gious De­part­ment (JAIK) yes­ter­day.

Jaik as­sis­tant di­rec­tor (Halal Man­age­ment Di­vi­sion) Rosyadah Ramli said in its four-hour op­er­a­tion, the de­part­ment in­spected six nasi kan­dar out­lets in the city.

“Out of the six out­lets, three were slapped with im­me­di­ate 14day clo­sure or­der for fail­ing to com­ply with reg­u­la­tions con­cern­ing hy­gienic prac­tices.

“Among oth­ers, we found work­ers at one of the out­lets pro­cess­ing roti canai flour on top of a sew­er­age cover at the back of the restau­rant, and found cock­roach drop­pings in the other premises.

“Some of the raw ma­te­ri­als were not prop­erly con­tained, ex­pos­ing the in­gre­di­ents to rats,” she said.

The op­er­a­tion was jointly un­der­taken with Kedah Health De­part­ment, the Do­mes­tic Trade, Co­op­er­a­tives and Con­sumerism Min­istry and Alor Star City Coun­cil.
