EC denies involvement

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has denied involvement in the production of a “seditious” mandarin-language video clip on a voter registration drive for the 14th General Election.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah yesterday said the use of the EC logo at the end of the clip had led to confusion among the public.

He said EC would not hesitate to take legal action if the logo was used without permission as it could mar the commission’s image.

“The EC warns those involved not to use the agency’s logo for any production or campaign without permission.”

He said the video, which lasted one minute and 40 seconds, was seditious in tone and could incite hatred towards certain parties.
