Build­ing a com­pas­sion­ate na­tion

KUALA LUMPUR: The pub­lic is wel­come to make in­faq (do­na­tions) for the up­com­ing World #Qu­ranHour and Merdeka #Qu­ranHour.

Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foun­da­tion chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Marhaini Yu­soff said the “JomInfaq” pro­gramme would en­cour­age peo­ple to be more com­pas­sion­ate to­ward oth­ers.

Among items that the pub­lic can do­nate are food, bev­er­ages, mats, um­brel­las and items that will be use­ful dur­ing the pro­gramme.

“The theme ‘A Na­tion of Com­pas­sion’ is a call to ac­tion to love, give and help across the bound­aries of re­li­gion and na­tion.

“On 9th Zul­hi­j­jah, we will hold an if­tar and a feast af­ter the Merdeka #Qu­ranHour pro­gramme at 10.30pm,” Marhaini said.

She said food do­na­tions would be am­ple for a crowd of 2,000.

She also said the or­gan­iser was ex­pect­ing 5,000 peo­ple to join in the event.

“We are ex­pect­ing the at­ten­dance of univer­sity stu­dents, the home­less, Ro­hingya refugees and the in­ter­na­tional com­mu­nity.

“We also want to cel­e­brate (the oc­ca­sion with our) non-Mus­lim friends to share the spirit of to­geth­er­ness.”

World #Qu­ranHour will start at 8.30pm at Dataran Merdeka on Aug 31, and at se­lected mosques. It is in con­junc­tion with the wuquf in Arafah, Mecca. Me­dia Prima Bhd is a me­dia part­ner for World #Qu­ranHour.
