THE district of Machang is set to undergo “rehabilitation” with the allocation of RM8.5 million to improve public amenities and facilities.

RM5 million will be used to build rural roads; RM2 million to repair and build new amenities; and RM1.53 million to refurbish mosques and surau.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the allocation included funds to repair 100 houses belonging to the poor, as well as damaged rural roads and drains.

“I will continue to render assistance to (people in) the country, and of course, Machang.

“Hence, I will approve the request (for the allocation) by Deputy Regional and Rural Development Minister Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub,” Najib said during the launch of the district’s people housing project (PPR) here yesterday.

Present were International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Local Government, Housing and Urban Well-being Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

Najib said the Federal Government had provided a subsidy of RM80,000 to RM120,000 for each unit in eight PPR projects in Kelantan.

The projects include 1,000 PPR units in Kota Baru and 418 units in Machang.

“The subsidy rate depends on the contractor and land cost.

“Today, I launched 418 PPR units in Batu 25 here in Machang. The RM75 million project on a 16ha plot of land is expected to be completed by early 2019.

“Each unit (in Machang) will be sold at RM35,000 to buyers with a monthly income of RM3,000 and who have yet to own a house.”

In Jeli, Najib said the construction of the district’s new hospital block might cost about RM57 million but the government had never been selective in approving allocations.

“As a leader, I have a principle and that is for the government to prioritise the people’s welfare and health.

“l will be fair to everyone regardless of which party they represent,” he said when launching the new Jeli Hospital block yesterday.

Najib said this had been proved with the construction of 10 government hospitals in Kelantan.

“This is the government’s approach to the people. There will be new hospitals in Bachok and Kuala Krai, which means 10 districts in Kelantan will be covered.”

The project was completed last year to provide additional facilities, including wards, two operation rooms, a pathology unit and more parking spaces.
