Elvis tribute concerts this week

-

THE King of Rock and Roll may have left us 40 years ago this Aug 16, but his music, style and charisma live on in the hearts of fans around the world.

As part of worldwide tributes to the rock legend, a special concert commemorating Elvis Presley’s musical magic is set to get fans rocking and rolling for two days at Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur and Melaka.

Jointly organised by Hard Rock Cafe and Melody United Music, the concert, to be held at 9pm on Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur and Thursday in Melaka, features Las Vegas-based Elvis tribute artiste Johnny Thompson.

Thompson is a winner of the Elvis National Award in the United States and has been named by MTV as the top tribute artiste of Presley.

He has performed in Las Vegas for 15 years and entertained fans around the world.

Hard Rock Cafe chairman Tan Sri Syed Yusof Syed Nasir said the concerts would promise a “rocking good time” for fans of Presley.

“There probably will never be another icon like Elvis, who captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Even though another lifetime has passed since — he was 42 — his brand is not only culturally relevant, but also known and celebrated around the world, which puts Elvis in a class by himself.”

Tickets to the Elvis 40th Anniversary Tribute Concert by Johnny Thompson are priced at RM100. Call 03-2715 5555 (KL) or 06-292 5188 (Melaka).
