Former anti-drug agency worker claims trial to soliciting, receiving RM3,000 bribe

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A former employee of the National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) yesterday claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to three charges of soliciting and receiving bribes totalling RM3,000 to settle the cases of two men, who had tested positive for drugs.

Amzar Wahid, 29, was charged with two counts of soliciting RM1,500 each from Sharulnizam Ramli and Abdul Rashid Jaafar as an inducement to not send their preliminary screening urine samples to the Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centre.

Amzar, who was an assistant at the drug agency, was also charged with accepting the bribes from Shahrulnizam and Rashid.

He is alleged to have committed the offences between 2pm on Oct 5, 2015, and 3.30pm on Jan 7 last year at Level 5 of the National Anti-Drug Agency, Federal House, Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, and at the car park area of Block 204, Sri Suajaya Condominium in Jalan Sentul Pasar.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Syakinah Ibrahim requested the court to impose bail at RM20,000, but counsel Kamarul Zaman Abdul Rahman said the amount was too high.

He said the accused was currently unemployed and had two children to support.

Judge Madihah Harullah set bail at RM15,000 in one surety and ordered the accused to report to the nearest police station once a month. She fixed Sept 15 for mention.
