More PPA1M homes for civil servants

-

KUANTAN: Good news awaits civil servants as the government is planning to build more houses under the 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Project (PPA1M).

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said the government had received more then 300,000 applications for PPA1M and the demand was always encouraging each time a project was launched.

He said, initially, the government had decided to build 200,000 housing units by 2020, which is double the number of units planned earlier.

“Based on the demand for PPA1M residential units and high number of applications, we will not rule out the possibility of building more units in the country, compared with the earlier target.

“PPA1M projects are carried out in all states to allow civil servants to apply for units.

“Currently, 333 PPA1M projects to build 126,105 housing units are being developed nationwide in various stages, including some that were approved recently, in the midst of construction and 90 per cent complete.

“Although a majority of the projects are in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, there is demand in major towns (state capitals) and smaller districts,” he said after handing house keys to 197 owners of PPA1M Aspen Taman Kuantan Jaya here yesterday.

Ali said the programme was the government’s commitment to ensure that the wellbeing and comfort of civil servants were looked after and allow them to own affordable homes.

“The programme has a clear goal and one is not required to wait for a long time. In Putrajaya and Kuantan, the housing projects were completed ahead of schedule, which will allow us to develop more similar projects,” he added

He said cooperation between the state government, housing developer and the PPA1M Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department would ensure the programme’s success.

Ali said 4,629 units had been approved in Pahang, including 197 units in Aspen Taman Kuantan Jaya, on a 10.9ha site, which was completed six months ahead of schedule.

He said the third and fourth phases of the project here, which involved 558 units, would be completed near Taman Kuantan Jaya within two years.

Present were State Secretary Datuk Seri Muhammad Safian Ismail and Adenland (Kuantan) Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Nicholas Chang

Abdullah Salim, 35, the proud owner of a single-storey terrace house who received his keys yesterday, praised the governmentfor subsidising the units.

The father of three said such initiatives would allow civil servants from the lower grades to buy homes as it was tough for them to secure bank loans to buy homes from private developers.
