FLYFIREFLY Sdn Bhd, the operator of Firefly, is collaborating with AIG Insurance to offer free basic insurance packages for all of the airline’s passengers, complete with the option to upgrade at a low price.

The group launched two new products and a new collaboration over a breakfast session with the media at its headquarters in Petaling Jaya yesterday.

FlyFirefly chief executive officer Ignatius Ong said many failed to understand that purchasing travel insurance was not always about unforeseen accidents, but also about protection against travel risks and unexpected med- ical costs abroad.

“You are protected for free up to RM15,000 for medical expenses and RM1,000 for trip cancellations, but why not upgrade and enjoy full-fledged protection coverage, including for baggage damage, loss of travel documents and flight delays.

“It is a bargain that I would never say no to. It is also our responsibility to create awareness on the importance of travel protection.

“Passengers will also have the option to upgrade to five times the basic coverage at RM16.96 (one-way) and RM22 (return), which is a small fee for peace of mind,” he said.

For better passenger convenience, the group, via Firefly Holiday — Malaysia’s pioneer travel portal offering hotels, car rentals and activities worldwide — has also started a collaboration with Expedia.

“At Expedia, we spend every day looking for ways to improve travel experience for our travellers through technology, bringing them better choice, simplicity and savings.

“We are very excited to bring Expedia’s extensive access of more than 435,000 properties globally, including thousands of amazing properties in Southeast Asia, more than 25,000 activities and dozens of car rental companies to customers of Firefly Airlines,” said Expedia general manager of Southeast Asia and India Simon Fiquet.

He said the collaboration with Firefly was one more step forward on its growth path in Malaysia and the region.

“We hope Firefly customers will enjoy their holiday experience as much as they enjoy their flight experience with the airline,” he said.
