PM: SHIP will boost Bumiputeras’ monthly pay to RM20,000

-

PUTRAJAYA: Mid-level income Bumiputeras will get a chance to boost their earnings to more than RM20,000 a month via an initiative called the Super HighIncome Programme (SHIP).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, in announcing the Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera’s SHIP programme yesterday, said successful applicants would undergo upskilling training in selected fields.

“Focus will be given to industries that require skilled and professional workers, including in financial services, business services, health sector, maritime and aerospace industries.

“The courses, which will be financed by Bank Rakyat, will take between three and five years,” he said.

Applications for the first phase would be open by year-end.

Najib said 50 applicants would be chosen under the first phase, with a maximum funding of RM10 million for financial, health and technology services.

“The next phase will start next year with more specialised areas and industries, which will be introduced in phases, involving 250 people selected for the programme.”

Those selected for SHIP could also see their study loans reduced by up to 20 per cent, said Najib.

More details about SHIP, he said, could be obtained from Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera’s website.

Najib, who earlier chaired the Yayasan Peneraju Board of Trustee meeting, said the foundation was on the right track to develop Bumiputera talents via its three key thrusts: Peneraju Tunas, Peneraju Skil and Peneraju Profesional.

He said Yayasan Peneraju had achieved its target of developing more than 16,000 Bumiputera talents via more than 200 programmes with an expenditure of RM435 million.

“This means 40 per cent out of the target to develop 40,000 Bumiputera talents by 2020 has already been achieved. By the end of this year, the number will increase to 20,000, as targeted.”
