Serba Dinamik inks deal with Izin Budi to build centre for maintenance, repair and overhaul as well as inspection, repair and maintenance in Pengerang
SERBA Dinamik Holdings Bhd and Izin Budi Sdn Bhd will jointly develop Malaysia’s first global centre of excellence for oil and gas maintenance, repair and overhaul in Pengerang, Johor.
SERBA Dinamik Holdings Bhd will develop Malaysia’s first global centre of excellence for oil and gas maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) in Pengerang, Johor, in a mixed project with a gross development value of RM1.4 billion.
The company sealed agreements for the project with developer Izin Budi Sdn Bhd yesterday.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the project, which would complement Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s multi-billion ringgit Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC), was part of the state’s aim to diversify its economy.
“The project is expected to attract service providers locally and abroad to establish their presence in Johor. Other than the MRO and IRM centre, there will be several projects in new fields, including robotic and biotechnology.
“We are also looking to turn Johor into a health hub and at some other investments in tourism,” Khaled said at the signing of a memorandun of agreement, here, yesterday.
Construction would begin next year at an estimated cost of RM1 billion, he added.
Phase One, comprising the MRO and IRM Global Centre of Excellence as well as the Pengerang Eco-Industrial Park, would require an investment of more than RM800 million, he said.
Phase Two and Three will include commercial and residential components.
Serba Dinamik group managing director and group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah said the large number of plants, machinery and equipment at PIC and Pengerang Deepwater Terminal would need regular MRO, IRM and plant turnover services to maintain their efficiency and safety.
This would strengthen the company’s presence in Pengerang, he added.
“The project will also incorporate technical and vocational education and training to develop relevant skills, particularly for Malaysians, which will serve as a regular supply of skilled resources for the petrochemicals industry, here,” said Karim.
