KUALA LUMPUR: Construction work to extend the Tropicana Medical Centre Sdn Bhd (TMC) in Kota Damansara is scheduled to begin in October, said TMC Life Sciences Bhd (TMCLS) chairman Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Khalid Abdul Kadir.

He said the extension, spanning over 0.97 hectare would triple its current capacity from 200 beds to 600 beds.

“The RM300 million expansion will make TMC one of the biggest private hospitals in the region.

“With our growing team of specialist consultants and our focus on strong and sustainable financials, we are positive of providing excellent care to our patients,” said Khalid at the groundbreaking ceremony for the hospital’s new extension, here, yesterday.

The present TMC building occupies 0.64ha on a 2.42ha plot of land.

He said the expansion, which was projected to be completed by the second half of 2020, entailed the construction of an additional 110 specialist clinics, five operating theatres and 1,100 parking lots.

Khalid said revenue from the new extended block would be realised in 2022, two years after full operations.

For the third quarter ended May 31, TMCLS recorded RM40.7 million in revenue and a pre-tax profit of RM8 million, a growth of 17 and 25 per cent, respectively, compared with the same quarter a year ago. Bernama
