200m-long screen set up for programme

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A giant 200-metre-long screen has been set up at Dataran Merdeka in preparations for the much anticipated Merdeka #QuranHour next week.

The screen, standing 9-metres high, would be the venue’s centrepiece, displaying Quranic verses and translations to 2,000 expected guests on Aug 31.

Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation chief executive officer Marhaini Yusoff said the crowd would be able to watch videos and multimedia presentations via the high-resolution LED screen.

“We are excited for the event after seeing them (workers) set up the giant LED screen.

“We had a dry run of the digital content and, personally, I felt it was a breathtaking experience watching and reading Quranic verses on the screen.

“There will be a clip that will link science and Islam based on verses from Surah Yassin. So, people should not miss the opportunity (to watch it), all of us can learn something from what will be broadcast.”

She hoped the event would get more people to read the Quran, understand its meaning and glean lessons from what they have learnt.

She said the symbolic date was meaningful to Malaysians, as it was rare to celebrate both Merdeka and Hari Raya Aidiladha on the same night.

“On the 9th of Zulhijjah, which is the night of Merdeka, we will hold a feast after the Merdeka #QuranHour programme.

“It will be held at 10.30pm and everyone is invited. That night, the attendees of the programme are our VIPs.

“Just forget our differences. Whether you are a member of the elite or homeless, we are family.”

Twenty-one reciters would be leading the recitation, and the attendees would follow their lead by reading together as a group.

Media Prima Bhd is a media partner for the World #QuranHour programme.
