Young civil servants play vital role in implementing policies
PUTRAJAYA: Young civil servants play an important role in the implementation of the government’s policies and the country’s development, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.
He said the civil service played an integral role in translating the government’s aspirations into reality.
“Civil servants must continue to champion the implementation of the government’s efforts to make sure every initiative is realised.
“It is important to instil this spirit among young civil servants, who have the great responsibility in deciding the direction of the country.
“They are the government’s backbone in driving the government's aspirations towards 2050,” Ali said in his speech after the 2017 Gemilang Walk programme here yesterday.
He said young civil servants actively shared their thoughts, ideas and aspirations during National Transformation 2050 (TN50) dialogues throughout the country.
“This is the commitment we want from them because they will take over from the current leadership in running the country.”
Present were Public Service Department director-general Datuk Seri Zainal Rahim Seman, Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah and Communications and Multimedia Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad.
Hosted by the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, the Gemilang Walk programme saw the participation of some 4,000 civil servants from 24 ministries.
The 1.6km walk, from the Palace of Justice to Dataran Gemilang here, was held in conjunction with the upcoming 60th National Day celebration.
Participants also sang patriotic songs.
At the closing of the event, Ali hoisted the Jalur Gemilang while the national anthem was played.
Members of Pentarama, a division of the Information Department, performed a flash mob, which other participants joined.
Gift hampers were given to the best contingent, biggest contingent and the contingent with the most attractive banner.
Ali, who participated in the walk, said he was proud of and overwhelmed by the support from civil servants.
“The programme is in line with our commitment to bring civil servants and government programmes closer to the people.
“In this spirit, civil servants must strive to defend the country’s sovereignty and fight in their area of expertise to offer the best services to the people and country.”
Ali said he hoped the event, which was held for the first time, would impact the target group, including those at the grassroots level.
“Activities like these help bring the public sector closer to the people. At the same time, it acts as a shield against negative activities, which can destroy the country.”
