21 to lead Surah Yasin recital

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty-one Yasin Flag Bearers will lead the Surah Yasin recital at Merdeka #QuranHour at Dataran Merdeka here on Thursday.

Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation chief executive officer Marhaini Yusoff said they comprised three imam from the National Mosque, Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad and from Singapore; a winner of the International Tilawah AlQuran; Qari Junior and Da’i contestants, and local celebrities.

“Eighty-three verses of Surah Yasin will be divided among the bearers, followed by tadabbur (translation) by seven people.

“Attendees will follow their lead by reading together as a group. That will be the highlight of Merdeka #QuranHour, along with the recital of Surah Al-Baqarah (verse one to five) prior to that,” Marhaini said yesterday, adding that during the recital, a multimedia presentation — via a light-emitting diode screen at Dataran Merdeka— would illustrate the link between Islam and science, based on verses from Surah Yasin, which had been described as the “heart” of the Quran.

“We hope that people will get a better understanding of the surah and change their mindset so that the essence of the surah will be embedded in their daily lives,” she said, adding that some 2,000 people were expected to attend the event.

Merdeka #QuranHour, to be held in conjunction with World #QuranHour, will run from 8pm to 11pm; whereas World #QuranHour will be held at the International Islamic University Malaysia’s Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Mosque from 11am to 1pm.

Media Prima Group is one of World #QuranHour’s media partners.
