Fair winds for sailors

MALAYSIA’S sailors are on course to meet their five gold target.

Yesterday, they bagged two gold, taking their total haul to three so far in Langkawi.

And Malaysia may even surpass the target, given that three of their sailors are leading in three out of the seven remaining classes.

2014 Asia Games gold medallist Mohamad Faizal Norizan and Ahmad Syukri Abdul Aziz brought cheer to the Malaysian camp when the duo won the Internatio­nal 470 class.

Thailand pair Navee Thamsoonto­rm and Nut Butmarasri grabbed silver while Philippine­s’ Emerson Villena and Lester Troy Tayong took the bronze.

Nuraisyah Jamil, the 2014 Icheon Asia Games silver medallist and Norashikin Mohd Sayed bagged the silver in the women's category which saw Singaporea­n pair Elisa Yukie Yokoyama and Cheryl Teo win gold while Thai sailors Narisara Satta and Nichapa Waiwai settled for bronze.

Muhammad Uzair Amin Mohd Yusof and Naquib Eiman Shahrin completed a glorious day for Malaysia by winning the internatio­nal class while Thais Suthon Yampinid and Napphorn Booncherd won the silver, followed by Singapore’s Koh Yi Nian and Wong Riji.

On Tuesday, Malaysia’s optimist team won the first sailing gold of the Sea Games through Israr Hazim Ismail, Muhammad Syafie Ali, Muhammad Fauzi Kaman Shah, Nor Nabila Natasha Mohd Nazri and Nurul Shazwanie Mohd Saad. Adie Suri Zulkefli
