Malaysia’s second singles Lee Zii Jia was sent packing earlier in the second round on Saturday.

“I don’t know what to say, I am very disappointed and I will have to think hard about what I want to do next.

“My playing is okay but I can’t seem to handle my mental state.

“I just can’t forgive myself because I made too many mistakes when I had the game in hand,” lamented Iskandar, who only returned to competitive action in May after picking up a back injury last year.

In Singapore two years ago, Malaysia claimed the men’s singles gold and silver medal through Chong Wei Feng and Mohd Arif Abdul Latif respectively.

But it was a good day for women’s singles Soniia Cheah and Goh Jin wei who marched into the semi-finals in style.

Soniia had to dig deep before seeing off Vietnam’s Nguyen Thuy Linh 21-18, 13-21, 21-12 while Jin Wei upset second seed Fitriani Fitriani of Indonesia 13-21, 2115, 21-12.

“Both Jin Wei and I are now in the semifinals, hopefully we get to make it an all Malaysian final,” said Soniia.

The 24-year-old national No 1, will play Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska next while Jin Wei takes on third seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand.

The other Malaysians who will feature in the semi-finals today are both mixed doubles Goh Soon Huat-Cheah Yee See, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie, women’s doubles Vivian HooWoon Khe Wei and men’s doubles Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi. Fabian Peter
