Mun Yee going strong

-

THE time has not come for veteran national diver Leong Mun Yee to retire from the sport.

In fact the 32-year-old from Perak still has a lot of missions in the pipeline with three Grand Prix championships coming up beginning right here in Kuala Lumpur, then she’s off to Singapore before heading off to the Gold Coast, Australia.

Mun Yee stressed that she does not see a reason to think about retiring when she feels she still has what it takes to represent the country at the highest level.

“If I can perform at the highest level and produce tangible results then I will continue.

“I still want to represent the country even though there are many young divers coming through the ranks,” she said.

When asked if she would feature in next year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia next year, Mun Yee said she does not want to think about that right now as she wants to focus on the three upcoming Grand Prix this year.

At the recent Kuala Lumpur Sea Games, Mun Yee contributed two gold medals, bringing it to a total of 17 gold she has won in the biennial event.

During the SEA Games, Mun Yee was calm and composed, thanks to her vast experience.

She is satisfied with her performance together with young diver Jellson Jabillin in the mixed 10m platform synchro and the women’s 10m patform synchro.

“The performance of the young divers is nothing short of impressive. However they need more time to hone their skills and perform even better.

“Based on the performances at the Sea Games this time, I am confident our young divers can do very well at the upcoming Commonwealth Games and Grand Prix events,” she said. Aida Adilah Mat
