Nurul Huda wants her record smashed

-

SWIMMING legend Nurul Huda Abdullah hopes her 23 Sea Games gold medals record will be overtaken by a fellow Malaysian.

She said her record should be broken or matched as this means progress for Malaysian sport.

“I hope someone will be able to surpass my achievement in this sport because records are meant to be broken and only then will we see the progress,” said Nurul Huda.

“I have told Shalin (Zulkifli) to keep moving forward and break my record.”

Nurul Huda, who competed in three Sea Games editions, won seven gold and one silver at the Sea Games in Bangkok in 1985 besides breaking six Games records.

She made her last Sea Games appearance in 1989 in Kuala Lumpur, winning nine gold medals.

Bowling queen Shalin is close to matching Nurul Huda’s feat as she has won 20 gold since her debut in 1993.

Shalin is expected to match or break Nurul Huda’s record in the 2019 Sea Games if she is selected.

Nurul Huda hopes her achievement will inspire and motivate athletes especially the swimmers.

Besides Shalin and Nurul Huda, others who have recorded stellar performances at Sea Games include diver Leong Mun Yee (16), swimmer Alex Lim Keng Liat (12), equestrian’s Mohd Qabil Ambak Mahamad Fathil (11), swimmer Daniel Bego (11) and diver Ooi Tze Liang (9).

Also listed among the best are swimmer Jeffrey Ong (8), diver Pandelela Rinong (8), cyclist Fatehah Mustapa (7), gymnasts Durratun Nasihin Rosli (5) and Faiznur Miskin (4). Mohd Khairie Khalid
