Juniors are ready to move up

-

THE junior netball players are ready to replace the seniors in the national team and maintain Malaysia’s status as the best in the region.

The Malaysian Netball Association relied on the seniors at the Sea Games and they delivered the gold medal.

But do Malaysia have capable up and coming players to replace the ageing seniors?

National coach Aminah Asaari believes the juniors will just be as good, if not better.

“The association has been preparing the back-up squad and they have been given training exposure where they competed against senior teams.”

“The juniors have proved themselves as they finished runners-up in the 2017 Asian Youth Championship in South Korea last May as well as finishing 17th at the World Youth Championship in Botswana in July.”

The Sea Games gold medallists will continue training for the sixth Nations Cup in Singapore in December as well as the Asia Championship in 2018 in Singapore.

“This tournament is run twice a year and last year it was held in Bangkok where Malaysia emerged as champions.

“This tournament will also determine who qualify for the World Championship in England in 2019.”

At the recent Sea Games, the squad, captained by Nur Syafazliyana Mohd Ali, defeated 2015 champions Singapore 65-41 for the gold. Farah Azharie
