Foreigners held for city cattle rearing, slaughter

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Two foreigners were nabbed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) yesterday for rearing cattle in the city.

The council’s enforcement team also seized two cows tied behind a bank at Jalan 2/3A in Pusat Bandar Utara Selayang during the morning operation.

DBKL executive director (socio - economic development) Datuk Ibrahim Yusoff said the operation was carried out after a video went viral on social media showing the foreigners illegally rearing cattle in the area.

He said the cattle breeders’ actions had polluted the area.

“City Hall has confiscated the two cows kept at the site, and the owner was ordered to stop rearing cows at the location and to clean up the area,” he said.

Ibrahim said the site would be monitored by Health and Environment Department to ensure that the problem did not recur.

In another incident, several Bangladeshis were caught on video slaughtering a cow by the roadside near Jalan Pudu. The video went viral last week.

“The department is monitoring problematic locations to ensure that no cows are slaughtered at locations,” Ibrahim added.

The foreigners’ actions had caused distress among the locals, as they were done at unsuitable locations and raised concerns about hygiene.
