Dad wins RM10,000 from PTPTN

- SHAH ALAM

APARENT was picked as the first main prize winner of RM10,000 for the National Higher Education Fund Corporation’s (PTPTN) monthly draw under its Cabutan WOW! 20 Tahun PTPTN.

Mohd Ashik Abdullah, 42, had opened an account under PTPTN’s SSPN-i savings scheme since May last year for his son, Muhammad Salahuddin.

A gathering was held at SK TUDM Subang here yesterday for the prize presentation.

Present were PTPTN deputy chief executive officer (policy and operations) Mastura Mohd Khalid, the school’s Parent-Teacher Association chairman Brigadier-General Datuk Abdul Manaf Md Zaid, principal Ranizam Yusoff and PTPTN state office senior general manager Wan Zawiah Wan Abu Bakar.

Ashik, a pilot, said it was important for parents to start early to save for their children’s higher education.

His wife, Nurmahayu Idrus, 38, is a housewife.

Ashik said it was important for parents to think ahead to give the best education for their children.

“By starting to save early, parents will rely less on loans for educational purposes when the time comes,” he said.

Mastura said parents of Year One pupils who had deposited at least RM50 in their SSPN-i or SSPN-i Plus accounts were entitled to have one chance in a monthly prize draw.

She said the monthly prize draw would continue until Dec 31.

The main prize is RM10,000 and consolation is RM100 for 100 people.

“For its 20-year celebration, PTPTN has a cash prize draw for depositors in SSPN-i Plus, which will go on until end of October, with the grand prize of RM100,000.”

She said PTPTN encouraged parents to save as much as possible from the beginning.

“We are not only the education loan provider, but we have savings schemes as well.”

She said depositors would also enjoy many incentives by saving for their children’s education, including income tax relief, takaful protection and competitive dividends.

Mastura said for Muslims, the savings scheme was Syariah-compliant and guaranteed by the government.

She said under the 2017 Budget, parents with Year One children were entitled to receive a matching grant incentive with only RM50 in savings in SSPN-i or SSPN-i Plus.

“They will get RM50 each to be deposited in the savings account from the government,” she said.

She said the allocation for this incentive was about RM25 million.

“Up until July 31 this year, about 4.94 per cent of Year One pupils’ parents, or 22,000 people, have benefited from this incentive.”

She said this was the time for

parents to grab this opportunity by opening a savings account or by making a deposit into an existing account.
