CLOGGED DRAIN IRKS KL FOLK
KUALA LUMPUR: A clogged drain in Sri Hartamas here has caused fear in residents when they found that it is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
A resident, who wanted to be known only as Iman, said the drain had been clogged for at least two months.
“The drain is filled with mosquito larvae. As it is the raining season, the drain is always full.”
She said no action had been taken despite complaints by the residents.
“I hope the authorities will do something before the matter worsens.
“It is also an eyesore and sometimes, the stench can be unbearable.”
ACTIONLINE:
A Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) spokesman said it had checked the condition of the drain.
“We cannot identify the specific location as the drain was mostly covered.”
He said that made the cleaning process difficult.
“We have instructed Alam Flora contractors to clear the parts that are not covered.
“As for the covered parts, we will raise the issue with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
A City Hall spokesman said it would collaborate with SWCorp to make sure that the drain would not be a mosquito breeding ground.
“We will fumigate the area.”
