‘OUG drain clogged since December last year’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A patron of a Chinese restaurant in Jalan Hujan Rahmat, Taman OUG, here contacted Actionline to complain about a clogged drain.

The woman, who wanted to be known only as Wai Ling, 30, said the drain had been clogged since December last year.

“I talked to the restaurant owner about it, but he said he could not do anything as the problem lay with the drainage system in the area.

“I once saw a boy slip into the drain as the floor was slippery. And, the stench drives patrons away.”

She said the owner claimed that he had lodged reports with the authorities.

“He told me the cleaning contractors came, but the situation remained the same.”

She said Kuala Lumpur City Hall should fix the drainage system.

ACTIONLINE:

A Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) spokesman said it had informed City Hall about the concrete steps built by restaurant operators over the drain.

“It is difficult to clean the drain when they cover it.”

She said on July 24, SWCorp and City Hall officers visited the area to discuss demolishing the structures built over the drain.

“We have advised restaurants to install grease traps so that food leftover, or oil, will not go straight to the drain.”
