Olympian Proud to host coaching clinic

EIGHT budding Malaysians will get a chance to be trained by British Olympic swimmer Ben Proud in Phuket today.

The swimmers were selected from three Ben Proud’s Talent Pool Clinics conducted in Putrajaya, Penang and Kota Kinabalu this year.

The lucky eight are Andi Farhan (13 years old) Bangsar Swimming Club, Nicole Shan Tee Teng (14) Bangsar Swimming Club, Toh Ting Wei (15) Penang Swimming Club, Caroline Lim Shi Chyi (11) Penang Swimming Club, Lau Ting Quan (14) Kingfisher Swim Team, Jess Lee Yen Yi (14) Trident Swim Team, Shairul Aiman Jefry (13) Penampang, Amelia Beatrix Chin Zhen Yi (15) Sandakan.

AirAsia is partnering Proud in a four-year tie-up as he works towards qualifying for his second Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.

As part of the programme, he will host an annual talent pool coaching clinic for up-and coming swimmers in the Asean region.

The programme is part of AirAsia’s #DARETODREA­M sports campaign that aims to grow the sports scene and nurture young talent from all levels across the Asean region.

The #DARETODREA­M campaign also involves national prides, including track cyclists Azizul Hasni Awang and Fatehah Mustapa as well as diver Leong Mun Yee.

Also in the project are promising bodybuilde­r Faiz Ariffin and gokart driver Muizzuddin Musyaffa. Jugjet Singh
