TM, Irda team up to deploy smart city solutions
KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) and Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) have signed a memorandum of understanding for the deployment and delivery of smart services in Iskandar Malaysia.
The agreement will enable TM to implement smart services, such as safety and security, smart mobility, city-wide services, energy and facilities management, as well as a citizen portal, in line with the Iskandar Malaysia Smart City Blueprint.
TM deputy group chief executive officer Datuk Bazlan Osman said Malaysia’s leading telecommunications company would play an integral role in establishing the ecosystem that would make Iskandar Malaysia the country’s model of a modern digital city by bringing in world-class te l e c o m m unications and smart city services to the southern economic region of Malaysia.
“Provision of smart services is not new to TM as the group has been delivering various smart services, including security surveillance and traffic management,” he said.
“With the MOU, we are leveraging on our expertise in smart city solutions to benefit Iskandar Malaysia.”
TM’s investments in Iskandar Malaysia includes the fibre optic telecommunication infrastructure, a world-class data centre and an Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) for the delivery of smart services solutions.
The IOC, the first ever in Malaysia, will serve as a centralised command centre for Internet of Things (IoT) operations of smart city services.
This will enable TM to provide a single monitoring dashboard to coordinate operations of smart services involving physical devices and sensors, vehicles, buildings as well as incidents and events.
