Lat shares ideas on animation, caricature at festival
IPOH: Cartoonist Datuk Mohammad Nor Khalid, better known as Lat, and animation pioneer Hassan Muthalib, shared their experiences and ideas on animation and caricature at the “Cartoon, Caricature and Animation — Borderless World” dialogue here yesterday.
The dialogue is one of the 70 events organised by the Perak Festival of Ideas (PFoI), held in conjunction with the Pangkor Dialogue 2017.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir was present at the event and joined the auctioning of a caricature of Lat, Hassan and caricaturist Azmi Hussin.
Zambry won the auction for the caricature, with the signatures of the trio, with a RM1,000 bid.
Azmi, who was invited as a guest artist, was also a panellist for a dialogue session with Sharpened Word.
At the event, Zambry celebrated the second anniversary of the establishment of Sharpened Word, an organisation that holds literary community events in Ipoh.
Lat said the event allowed 60 amateur participants to share and understand more about a caricaturist’s career.
“As an experienced caricaturist with my own drawing style, this initiative by PFoL has enabled the exchange of ideas between me and participants.
“Animation and caricatures should be promoted through technology.”
He said the local cartoon industry must learn from foreign experts.
“Perhaps, we can let in foreign cartoonists and take them to places, such as the Royal Belum State Park, so they can exchange ideas with local cartoonists and discuss what they know about the industry,” Lat said.
