Woman in viral video clip under probe

-

SERDANG: Police yesterday recorded a statement from the woman who became the “star” of a viral video clip in which she was seen berating a Subang Jaya Municipal Council enforcement officer while holding a car steering lock.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Megat Mohd Aminuddin Megat Alias said police also recorded a statement from her husband to facilitate investigations.

The case, he said, was being investigated under the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

In the 97-second video clip, said to have been recorded at 1pm on Friday, the woman is seen yelling at the enforcement officer for clamping her car.

The car had been clamped because it was not parked in a proper lot.

The woman, who was holding a steering lock in a threatening manner, yelled at the officer that she could not find a parking lot and that she was buying food for her disabled husband.

The officer, who remained calm throughout the situation, explained to her the nature of her offence, but the woman continued to scream at him and threatened him with the steering lock, drawing the attention of the public.

“When the husband went to the municipal council depot to pay the fine and take the car, there was a claim that the man was an able-bodied person,” said Aminuddin.

However, he declined to confirm whether the man was indeed disabled.

Welfare Department directorgeneral Datuk Zulkiply Ramli said even if motorists had a disabled parking sticker, they should not park in places where there were no parking bays.

He added that parking lots reserved for the disabled were only for those with the proper stickers issued by the Road Transport Department.

“Disabled parking lots are reserved for vehicles with disabled parking stickers driven by motorists who are disabled or those with passengers with physical disabilities so that they can get into and out of the vehicles safely.

“In fact, after a disabled passenger gets out of a vehicle driven by an able-bodied driver, the vehicle is not allowed to be parked in the disabled parking lot. The able-bodied driver is also not advised to wait in the parking lot.”
