Four family members hurt in workshop fire

-

JOHOR BARU: A 12-year-old boy suffered 20 per cent burns while three family members were injured when spilt petrol burst into flames at a motorcycle workshop in Jalan Tebrau here on Saturday night.

The incident is believed to have happened when the boy’s 40-year-old father, 15-year-old sister and 14-year-old brother were cleaning the workshop.

Johor Baru Fire and Rescue Department operation chief Saiful Bahri Safar said the petrol was spilled while they were cleaning the workshop.

“While one of the victims was cleaning the spill, it burst into flames and engulfed all four victims.

“The victims were taken to Sultan Ismail Hospital,” said Saiful Bahri.

An eight-member team from the Tebrau Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to the workshop.

“The fire did not affect the workshop’s structure,” said Saiful Bahri.
