Video of neighbour beating man goes viral

-

KLANG: A man suffered multiple injuries when he was assaulted with a rattan cane during a dispute with a neighbour in Jalan Jarak here last Wednesday.

In the 3.15pm incident, the 52year-old man was allegedly attacked by the neighbour, following an argument involving the victim.

The incident, which is believed to have taken place at the victim’s house here, was caught on camera and the one-minute video has since gone viral.

The video shows the victim, who was shirtless and forced to kneel, repeatedly assaulted by the neighbour with a rattan cane measuring about 1m.

A boy was seen crying and pleading with the neighbour to stop hitting his grandfather.

A woman, believed to be the victim’s wife, was heard begging for the beating to stop.

The man, who sustained injuries on his shoulder, thigh, buttocks and calf, sought treatment at a hospital before lodging a report at the Bandar Baru Klang police station.

Sources yesterday said the incident occurred when the victim scolded a 60-year-old neighbour, who had showed up at the former’s house to intervene in a domestic dispute.

The victim had supposedly used abusive language against the neighbour, who subsequently left the house.

A second neighbour went to the victim’s house and reprimanded him. He then picked up a rattan cane and began assaulting the victim.

“The incident was recorded by the neighbour’s friend and the video was uploaded to social media,” said a source.

The source added that police had confiscated the rattan cane and were locating the alleged attacker.

Police also visited the neighbour’s house to seek his assistance in the investigation, but to no avail.

Bukit Aman corporate communications head Senior Assistant Commissioner Datin Asmawati Ahmad said investigations were ongoing and police had launched a manhunt for the neighbour.
